+++Imperial Fists+++The Imperial Fists "are a Codex Chapter and follow the precepts and dogmas of the great tome closely." "For some centuries after the Horus Heresy the Imperial Fists were unique amongst all the Chapters in having their Chapter fortress on Earth. As 'Defenders of Earth' their role as the Emperor's bodyguard was honourable if largely inactive. Because of this the Imperial Fists have become the most strident Crusading Chapters of all, ever seeking to take the fight to the enemies of the Imperium." Many know of the tale held by the Blood Angels, of how Sanguinius faced Horus shortly before the Emperor did. And how he supposedly opened up a weakness that the Emperor took advantage of to destroy the Warmaster. However, few know of an account of the final battle between the Emperor and Horus held by the Imperial fists in equal esteem. (Note: This story comes from printed GW material.) During the battle the Warmaster had seriously wounded the Emperor, and was about to deliver the killing blow. "The Warmaster was only prevented from taking the Emperor's life by the timely intervention of a squad of Imperial Fist Marines in Terminator Armour. The squad cut their way through walls and sealed doors to reach the Emperor's side and launched an unexpected counter-attack on the Warmaster. Distracted by their appearance, Horus was off his guard long enough for the Emperor to press forward and kill him. Although weak, the Emperor was still able to order that his armour be taken off and melted down, and that the pieces be made into badges that all Marine Captains attached to Terminator squads should wear in recognition of the service performed in the defeat of Horus." The Imperial Fists tactical markings are black with squad numbers in white. Sergeants wear a red skull device on their helmet, while Veterans and Veteran Sergeants are denoted by the addition of a red stripe to their helmet.
